pleasures. He should have strength to oppose the

cruel and help the poor. He should rise above small

things in life. He must bow before God's will.

This is my prayer to thee, my Lord,

Strike, strike at the root of penury in my heart.

Give me the strength lightly to bear my joys and

sorrows.

Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in

service.

Answers 1. The poet needs strength to enable him to help the poor and resist insulting might. He also needs strength to rise above small things in life.

2. The word "strength" is repeated in last two

lines. Who does it refer to? Or Why does the poet repeat the words."Give me the strength"?

Ans. In the first line it refers to God. In the second line it refers to the poet. Or The poet repeats the words, "Give me the strength" because he needs strength for many things.
