May, Might, Used To, Ought to, Must, Need, Dare - English grammar | Part- 2 (7) Use of ‘May’ 1. To grant or seek permission formally. ‘May’ is more formal and polite  than ‘can’. For Example :  You  may  leave now. May  I come in, Sir? 2. To express a wish (benediction or malediction) For Example : May  God bless you! May  God curse you! 3.
